Album Review

Thursday
War All The Time
2003, Island

Once upon a time Mike and Josh had a conversation about Mike leaving his previous endeavour to start his own ‘zine, and Josh had mentioned he would love to contribute to said endeavor. Fast forward to the last two months where every time Josh has seen Mike, Mike has asked him for the review of the newest Thursday album that Josh said he would write. So here I am, sitting here and trying to figure out how to write the best review of an album I can, so that I can make Mike‘s wait worth his time.

Thursday are one of the few bands where, after the first time I heard them, I knew I was a fan of anything they would produce. If it‘s not obvious, I am a real sucker for Thursday. When War All The Time came out I went out and picked it up, just days after its release. I felt like a little kid, so excited for what I was about to hear, and I wasn‘t disappointed. This album, while it continues where their previous full-length Full Collapse leaves off, experiments within its genre. ‘Asleep In The Chapel‘ is such a great song, but it doesn‘t sound like something you would expect from Thursday at all, followed by ‘This Song Brought To You By A Falling Bomb‘, which consists of soft vocals over a piano; sounds almost like a Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan ballad. The band has been able to progress with their sound, and from the awesome beginning of ‘For The Workforce, Drowning‘ to the soft and sensitive sounds of the title track, finishing with the last note in ‘Tomorrow I‘ll Be You‘, this album will no doubt leave you happy that you picked this release up. This album is not as heavy as Full Collapse, but there is no doubt in my mind that it will still rock you like a hurricane.
