Not Enough Gold
Live and Learn
2005, Hewhocorrupts Inc.
The liner photo of the band decked out in Carry On and Bane hoodies should be indicative enough of the style Not Enough Gold are plying: straight-ahead classic hardcore. However, even if their listed influences include Give Up The Ghost and The Hope Conspiracy, it‘s to their credit that they overcome the boundaries placed upon them by ignorant hacks like myself to play what they wanna play, and what they wanna play has merit. This is an impressive, well-produced EP, combining the sheer speed of Comeback Kid with the unhinged essence of Every Time I Die. First(and only) single ‘High Life‘ features guest vocals from fellow Chicago hardcore veteran (and Fall Out Boy) Pete Wentz while somehow mining a Terror feel; in fact, these six songs are all short, hardcore-rooted numbers. ‘Need For Speed‘ is akin to He Is Legend‘s heavier side with an eerie vocal similarity, along with some robust riffage and inspiring gang vocals. ‘Out of Stomach, Out of Mind‘ features vocals from - get this - The Killers‘ Luke Gray(diverse influences or what?).
The band has ceased to exist since this EP was released last year, but it‘s still available for purchase over here.
