LPG
The Gadfly
2003, Uprok Records
These two dudes, cousins Dax and Jurny Big, are arguably the most important figures in Christian hiphop these days, staying true to their vision in an outspoken way and, more to the point, backing it up with killer tunes. On their first proper full-length in almost a decade and their Uprok debut, LPG have brought west coast heat in a big way, devoid of filler and the irritating mile-long list of guests (labelmates Sev Statik and Raphi comprise the enlisted help here). From nostalgic looks back with ‘(Used To Be) A Place Called Hip-Hop‘ to abrasive critiques (check out ‘Squad Car‘ - harsh), LPG are pissed off and determined to poke and prod the listener and the industry types: "it‘s intentional; we did this junk on purpose/hopefully to inspire someone to outwork us." This disc has what you need, be it reflections or bangers. Rap‘s first cousins have created a raised for bar for holy hiphop.
