Some albums of note that have crossed the desk lately:
- Life In Pictures: hailing from Arizona or someplace close, these guys are the first signing to Clockwork Recordings, a little project As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis, distributing it through our boy Brian at Pluto Records; LIP sound little like AILD, however, mashing frantic beats and metal energy with honest-to-goodness guitar solos(like, ones that run over a minute in length) and harsh, sometimes-profane lyrics that are nothing if not honest.
- Baby Teeth: as near as I can gather, it's called The Baby Teeth Album, Baby Teeth being the band itself; either way, Lujo Records has connected for a hit, as opposed to some of the misses they've served up(Fangs is a little too weird/esoteric for me), and this record brought me back to the '70s, when I wasn't even born yet. It's that good. Reminds me of Billy Joel in places.
- Speaking of Billy Joel, there's a song on the new Copeland record, In Motion, that sounds one heck of a lot like him, too. Singer Aaron Marsh has one of the top five singing voices I've ever heard. Can't get enough. And 'Love Is A Fast Song' is a candidate for Single of the Year in my books.
- The new Comeback Kid, as I predicted for months, is simply a destroyer of an album; I've been known to listen to it twice in an hour(it's a hot twenty-five minutes in length, as is proper). The title track(Wake the Dead) along with tracks seven and nine(the names escape me, but seven is the one with Good Riddance's Russ Rankin doing guest vocals) are the best. Yes.

One of the good things about my new job is that I'm paid to sit at a desk and type while listening to music - which is a rather significant portion of what I do in my free time anyway. See how rad this is? So earlier this morning(yaaaay 11-7 graveyard shift) I had on Brave Saint Saturn's 2003 album The Light of Things Hoped For..., and as has happened before, once I hit track thirteen, "Recall"(written by co-songwriter Dennis Culp), I listened to it - no joke - at least half a dozen times over. Great song. They brought in longtime producer Saki(Canadian!) to play drums, a female background vocalist along with Justin McRoberts, a guy on Wurlitzer keyboard, and of course, Culp's voice and deft touch with lyrics. Find the song wherever it is you find your music online, or buy the album on Amazon or something. BSS's website is toast apparently, otherwise I'd link y'all. That's today's Essential Listening - any song that can singlehandedly bring me out of the mood I was in before hearing it earns that honour.

Starting June 22nd Blindside will be back in the United States for their first tour in a year or so. Opening will be Showbread(they have a rep for their crazy live show) and the very quickly-rising Showdown from Tennessee. This'll be metal followed by spazz-out followed by Blindside, and I would love to see it. The tour dates can be found over here. [jesusfreakhideout]

Hey, kids, want a free custom-made drumkit? Even if you don't play drums, I bet you'd like it for a piece of extra furniture or something. So to that end, Roper drummer Nick White is auctioning off his $4500 kit with proceeds going to an orphanage in Kenya that the band supports financially. You can either pay two bucks for a ticket to win at any show, or hit up their website. I'd appreciate a drumkit even though I could never play it. Uncoordinated, you see.

Olllllldschool Christian-rock fans will remember White Heart - well, vocalist Billy Smiley has a new band called Symphony In Red...along with Megadeth's Dave Mustaine. That's pretty rad...I guess.

The Dove Awards(yes, yes, "the Christian Grammys", we get it already) were held a couple weeks ago, and amid a pile of artists/winners I've pretty much long since lost touch with, a truly innovative band pulled down a trophy: Mute Math won Modern Rock Recorded Song of the Year for 'Control'. Kudos.

Ex-dc Talk honcho Kevin Max has a new album on a new label(Northern Records) coming later this summer. I cannot wait.

We posted this the other day, but I like what I hear so much that we're gonna drop it again: a new Stretch Arm Strong song called 'Landslide' is up in demo form over here, and it sounds like everything they've done in the last five years, which is to say 'awesome'. I don't know about 'major-label-hardcore selling points' awesome, but to the longtime fans, this is as good as it gets. I'm wearing a SAS shirt as I write these words. How's that for irony?

Wheeee! Most Precious Blood have a new record called Merciless due out later this year, again on Trustkill Records. I wonder if any of the riffs contained therein will rock me as hard as 'Funeral Photography' did. [saveyourscene]

Good interview with The Dillinger Escape Plan right over here. Samantha knows what she's talking about.

A little cancellation to let you know about if you were planning on going: Montreal's Onlyforward has had to reschedule their planned April 30th show; they'll be back sometime in June, playing Maverick's instead(right below the original venue). As our source Dave Leibold says, at least they won't have to drag all their stuff upstairs next time around.

Musical discovery of the day: Himsa. Great metal band.

April 19, 2005

There's a slew of emails in our inbox, so we'll just plow through them sequentially.

Firstly, bedlamsociety, purveyors of rock and roll outta Ste. Catharines, ON, among other things have won a Juno award in the form of Alexisonfire taking home Best New Band honours at the Winnipeg ceremony a couple weeks ago. As well, new albums are in the near future from AoF guitarist Dallas Green and the sophomore effort Trainwreck from Boysnightout. BLS also put together a pretty good mixtape CD featuring an insane variety of artists that they're giving away at all kinds of shows and fests cross-country(I got mine in Montreal last month). There's interviews on the site with Walter Schreifels and Darkest Hour, and reviews, and and and...yeah, check it out.

Two new bands on Underground Operations are putting out new records - on the same night! Brat Attack and Dead Letter Dept. are doing a dual-CD-release show April 23rd at Toronto's Comfort Zone, and Ottawa's own Forty Cent Fix are among the openers. I'd go if I lived there.

Some hiphop news in the form of the masterful L.A. Symphony crew: the new album Disappear Faster is due out sooner than you think, and they're doing some touring in the western US:

Life In Pictures' debut By The Sign of the Spyglass is now out on Pluto Records' affiliate Clockwork Recordings. Listen to some stuff over here, and keep an eye out for LIP to invade your town in 2005; they'll be doing a lot of touring.

Horse the Band's next album is tentatively titled Super Horse The Band(how awesome is that??), and it will not be another Pluto release; the band has departed for another label. That's confirmed. Which label, however, is not. Yet. Anyway, Matt Bayles will produce the new album, and it will probably kill.

In the wake of Martyr A.D. suddenly dropping off their tour with Agnostic Front and subsequent breakup(it happened real fast), SoCal legends No Innocent Victim have been added as replacement openers, so if you're in Southern Cal and you happen to see a flyer for this, go go go. I know for me, July 2nd in Bushnell, Illinois will mark my one and probably only time seeing NIV live. Woohoo!

Brand New have been forced to pull out of their headlning slot at next week's Bamboozle Fest in Jersey(April 29th); replace them are none other than Thrice. [absolutepunk]

For the Roman Catholics among us, there's a new Pope, as if the entire civilized world didn't already know.

Stretch Arm Strong(what a great band) are calling their upcoming major-label debut Free At Last...which begs the question: free from what? Anyway, James Paul Wisner and Ryan Greene will do the production/mixing, respectively, and there's some demo material up on the web over here. More of the classic SCHC. Whee.

...that's 'South Carolina Hard-Core', for those who are clueless right now.

Evening kids.

It's looking like a really busy summer for those of us with unimportant jobs and a yearning to go see live music; acts rolling through town in the next month and a half include Silverstein, Sleeper Set Sail, 100 Demons, The Red Chord, mewithoutYou, Shotgun Rules, Against Me!, Terror, Kiros, The Fullblast, Acceptance, Greg MacPherson, Misery Index, Belvedere, and about five hundred more. A show I myself shall attend is a very underground affair at 295 Powell St(off Bronson) featuring Robot Kill City, Army of St. Joan, We, The Accused and two others - Saturday night at eight, for two lousy dollars.

Every single band/show I just spit out is noted at punkottawa.com. Every. Last. One.

Just in case it's not clear enough, we here at sweetdisaster live and die for Comeback Kid, who are arguably the very hottest band in the North American underground as you read these words; every show sells out, every song blows up, and even though I missed them last night at Babylon, our boy Alex at My Crappy Camera caught CBK's performance of 'Wake the Dead' and almost instantaneously had it online. You can watch over here. It's pretty hype.

Wow. This could get interesting. Two shows are going down May 25th - in the same building. At 7pm, Cafe Deckuf(upstairs at 221 Rideau) will have mewithoutYou and Bear Vs. Shark, while downstairs at Maverick's the metal will be had in audio-slaughter form courtesy of The Red Chord and others. I might have to get two tickets. Frig.

Today was Home Opener featuring your Ottawa Lynx baseball team - and for those of you not living here, just bear with me; the beginning of baseball season is always a rush for me. I arrived late at the ballpark for today's doubleheader action, but hey, my dad was even later. The Lynx split 1-1 with the visiting Rochester Red Wings. Yaaaay baseball.

And now some music.

In honour of the song that I can't keep out of my head, go on over and check out the video for Comeback Kid's 'Wake The Dead' - featuring Frankenstein!!

April 15, 2005

To celebrate the release of their upcoming album To Sentence The Dead(May 10th, and May 12th overseas), Bloody Sunday are heading out on tour for a month with Hoods, Donnybrook and the mighty Since The Flood. I have a STF T-shirt - did you know they've somehow signed to Metal Blade Records without me knowing? How'd that happen? Anyway, if you're interested in seeing the show, here's the itinerary:
May 13 - Harrisonburg, VA @ Captain Tees
May 14 - Fredericksburg, VA @ KC's
May 15 - Augusta, GA @ Lokal Loudness
May 16 - Jacksonville, FL @ Thee Imperial
May 17 - Orlando, FL @ Backbooth
May 18 - Marietta, GA @ Swayze's
May 19 - Birmingham, AL @ Cave 9
May 20 - Memphis, TN @ The Complex
May 21 - Conway, AR @ The Soundstage
May 22 - Tulsa, OK @ Pinkeye
May 23 - TBA
May 24 - San Antonio, TX @ The Sanctuary
May 25 - Houston, TX @ Mary Janes
May 26 - Dallas, TX @ TBA
May 27 - Odessa, TX @ 36 Chambers
May 28 - Lubbock, TX @ Space 1110
May 29 - El Paso, TX @ House of Rock N Roll
May 30 - Phoenix, AZ @ Big Fish Pub
May 31 - Los Angeles CA @ Hanging Jury
June 1 - San Francisco, CA @ The Pound
June 2 - Sacramento, CA @ The Boardwalk
[Facedown Records]

Sorry, Sparta fans: the band has cancelled the rest of their current tour, as guitarist Paul Hinojos has injured his back; he'll have to go back to Los Angeles for treatment. This is unfortunate for the ticketholders. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys in Montreal last year, and they killed. [buzzgrinder]

For those wondering what in the hey has gone down with Squad 5-0 after they left Tooth and Nail Records a few years back, well, they've released one great album and one album I have to reserve judgment on - and now they'll spend the next week on tour with Andrew W.K.! I had no idea the WK was still alive!

Those kidders Every Time I Die have found a new bass player: "March 31, 2005 - After hours(minutes) and hours(minutes) of deliberation(watching Cheaters), the Every Time I Die camp has decided on a new bass player. His name is Kevin Falk, previously of the band Between The Buried And Me. He comes to us from North Carolina with boatloads of talent(money) and enthusiasm(money). We thank EVERYONE who sent emails, pictures, tapes, loose coins and threats. Your willingness to surrender your time, nay, your LIVES just to be a part of our band is flattering and appreciated beyond words. Look for the new lineup on the SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND tour this summer. As always, we will see you on the road. Or on the side of the road. - ETID." Classy.

I remember reporting this for another 'zine when it happened: in 2002 Candiria were in a very nasty van wreck - and now, twenty-nine million dollars later, they're on the winning end of a legal dispute, according to the New York Post and their lawyer. Two of the band's five members have left the band since the accident, but they'll still get their ice money. [lambgoat]

So Megadeth and Dream Theatre are touring this summer. Terrific, right? Most of you reading this probably either never listened to those bands, or stopped long ago. So this should interest you - the openers for that tour include The Dillinger Escape Plan, Fear Factory and Nevermore. Says Megadeth ringleader Dave Mustaine: "I think Fear Factory and the Dillinger Escape Plan are really going to add something different to the tour and bring some new people in." Yeah, no kidding.

Bleed the Dream, besides being a really good rock and roll band(kinda Further Seems Forever circa 2003, with hardcore tendencies), also lost drummer Scott Gottlieb to cancer last weekend. The band's purevolume.com site had this to say(paraphrased): "On Sunday, April 10, 2005, Scott Gottlieb lost his battle with cancer. He had been fighting it since May 8, 2004 and was doing better and awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Then about a month ago he got an infection that he could not beat. Somehow in all his pain and suffering he did the most "punk rock" thing we've ever seen: he dragged himself out of his hospital bed to record all the drum tracks on our new album, Built By Blood. We are so sad that he won't be here to see it come out, but we are happy and proud that he left us such an amazing piece of himself to remember him by." That is guts, kids. Go listen to the songs over here, say a prayer for the Gottlieb family and the band, and enjoy the rock.

I'm excited. Know why? The weekend's here, meaning that tomorrow in Renfrew is the rock and roll hoedown featuring Is Grace Enough. But beyond that, I'm excited because Cave In, masters of every genre they slide into, are putting out new material, tentatively in August. The new stuff is eight songs recorded throughout 2003/04, and it will kill. [theprp]

I'm excited, Part II: Thrice are beginning the recording of their next album next week!

Speaking of Is Grace Enough, a band they're opening for April 25th, Cephalic Carnage(great name), are back in Ottawa in October, as part of a massive tour with Cryptopsy and others. Our show will be October 30th at the Capital Music Hall(where else would this show be?)

The rapping dude from Linkin Park has this new solo project he's calling Fort Minor, but I ask you this: when's the last time you heard anyone even mention Linkin Park??

Weird Bill of the day: May 22nd in Richmond, VA will see A Static Lullaby playing with Underoath. Great. Good, solid emo/screamo bill. Then how come Unwritten Law and SUM 41 are playing?? Huh? How come??? That show's at 18th Street in Richmond, if you're interested.

Hey, we mentioned Every Time I Die earlier on; their new album Gutter Phenomenon now has a possible release date of July 12th. Awesome.

Today's nomination for Band That Purportedly Isn't Hiding Their Christian Faith Even Though They're On A Mainstream Label: The Chemistry, outta California. They're "inspired by MxPx and Green Day", according to their bio, but we're here to tell you that they sound absolutely nothing like either of those bands. [cmusicweb]

If you've been into Christian rock for a long time like I have, this could prove interesting: Forefront Records(one-time home to dc Talk, ETW, The Normals, Grammatrain and Bleach, among a slew of others) has announced that almost four thousand songs previously unavailable online(officially, anyway) will now be released. Dude, I was hugely into Grammatrain circa the mid-'90s. Interesting tip: singer Pete Stewart is now in a band with ex-P.O.D. guitarist Marcos Curiel. If anyone cares. We report useless bits of news here. That's what we do.

Ensign are back: they may not have released a proper studio album in four years(a covers album was put out in 2003), but some demos have surfaced on the web. 'Warning Shots' was put online in January, and now three more songs have followed, available over here. Ensign's next album, Lost Messages On A Fading Frequency, will be out this summer, and I personally hope they tour through Ottawa for it. [punknews]

It's been reported that I don't use words like 'purportedly' enough; this on the heels of dropping that triple-word-score number the other day in reference to Victory Records. So, for Brian, here it is: purportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedlypurportedly

This was done PURELY because I'm very tired after a night's work. I have no defense.

Once again, outdone by the humorous chaps at Relevant: "Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye, authors of the Left Behind series, have criticized the new NBC mini-series Revelations as being "unbiblical" and "weird." In other news, the 87th book in the Left Behind series will be available this fall..."

They kill me.

Greetings from Will Plummer's basement. In Manotick. For those who don't know who Will is, he's the drummer for Is Grace Enough. Manotick is about ten minutes south of Ottawa. As I write these words, IGE are in the next room cooking up a new song that rips. Undoubtedly they'll call it something nonsensical until they get around to recording it in the studio. Yes. Oh, and if you're bored this Saturday, c'mon out to Renfrew, ON('bout half an hour beyond Kanata) to watch IGE do the song live, somewhere around nine-thirty or tennish.

Pedro the Lion side project Headphones(Dave Bazan, Frank Lenz and someone else I can't remember) are releasing their self-titled debut May 10th on Suicide Squeeze Records; a tour will follow, and the dates will appear over here when it does. This is an 'electronic' project, from what I read. [truthexplosion]

Starting July 1st, Universal Music Canada will become the sole distributor of Victory Records in this country. Victory's purportedly the number-one indie label in the States. I don't know about that, but hey.

Lucerin Blue are easily among the best bands there is in terms of keeping their fans updated via email; this latest details the still-upcoming new album The Dying Words of A Failed Artist(it'll be out whenever the producer they're working with can get it finished), a new website in the near future, and of course, a ton of shows:

April 15th
Victoria Park Pavillion, Kitchener
w/Farewell to Freeway, Wheels On The Bus, War Against Amy and A Failure For Every Season
Doors @ 7
$8 in advance, $10 at the door
Tickets @ Encore Records and Orange Monkey

May 21
Paramount Canada's Wonderland, Vaughan
w/Kutless, Delirious?, Audio Adrenaline and Newsboys
canadaswonderland.com for more details
There are a bunch more shows, but all featuring bands I've never heard of, and it's really time-consuming to html-tag tons of bands and links and stuff. Lucerin Dot Com has alllll the info.

Word from Toronto and sd contributor DJ Omnifik(get well soon, brother Dave) is that Relient K were spotted on a Doritos commercial recently, airing on MuchMusic; the band spouted off the bands they've recently toured with(none as big as their upcoming trek with Simple Plan and Good Charlotte), and that they're Canadian. They are? I know singer Matt Thiessen was born in Ste Catharines, but...I bet they're saying it so Canadian kids with Much-bred tastes will adore them.

Hey, this just in: speaking of Delirious?, which we briefly were, they're gonna be in Montreal May 20th at the Palais de Congres. No other info to report. Find out for yourself. Everyone has the internet now.

And while we're on that note, some other quick shows to keep your calendar clear for: Comeback Kid will be in Ottawa twice in the next month; next Friday(April 15th), and then May 13th with Terror and Sinai Beach. Moneen are here April 15th. Kiros are here May 7th. Onlyforward will play Cafe Dekcuf downtown April 30th. There you go.

Maryland's xLookingForwardx have signed with Facedown Records. There's a big email about it, but that's the basic premise.

The new effort from Jars of Clay, called Redemption Songs, takes thirteen classic hymns and retools them into a contemporary style of JOC-flavoured music. Now that the hyperbole is out of the way, lemme tell you who's on the record as guests: Sara Kelly, Delirious' Martin Smith, and the Blind Boys of Alabama(always a winner). The record came out last month; go get it. [renown]

Hey, finally: Ottawa's own ilubricateyou is up and running. Check out the interview with Slug from Atmosphere.

Living Legends Immediate Show Feedback, In Point Form

- My ears kinda hurt from the mix
- Pigeon John equals sick
- Living Legends equals sick times seven(there's seven of 'em!)
- J-Live equals very absent(personal issues have precluded his presence on the entire tour - bummer
- Babylon needs to have their hiphop shows end waaaay earlier, in my humble opinion. This rolling in home at half past three business kinda sucks
- Hilariously, I'll be back at Babylon in twelve hours for Throwdown. How ironic

This just in: the new Mae album, entitled The Everglow, was purchased by me last week and it has officially won me over. What a record.

In related news, the new Starflyer 59 drops next Tuesday. It's called Talking Voice Vs. Singing Voice, and it will supply all your rock needs.

See you all at the Pigeon John show tonight. 10pm door time at Babylon.

Posted by mike at 06:10 PM

Morning, fuzzlings. No new content in a while, not even news, but yeah, just checking in. The move and its ramifications have me pretty busy, along with switching jobs and engaging in much socializing. You can come hang with the sd.com Big Cheese at the Pigeon John/Living Legends show tonight(Friday) at Babylon(doors 10pm - this show will go very late), or tomorrow also at Babylon for Throwdown and As I Lay Dying. Doors for that are, refreshingly, four in the afternoon. We'll all be asleep by nine.

Some quick notes:
- The new album from Subseven is solid; nothing spectacular, but the singer doesn't irritate me, and even though they're on a label(Flicker) that is an Audio Adrenaline-helmed endeavour, I like the record.
- I picked up a Suburban Home Records compilation while on tour last month and one song has established itself above the cacophony of hardcore, metal, punk and indie madness: a guy by the name of Mike Felumlee, 'bout halfway through the comp - the song is so good. Timeless indie pop-rock. I LOVE it.

Oh, and for the classic rock nerds among us: Deep Purple is coming to Ottawa soon with April Wine. And Motorhead is coming too. And I think my dad and I should go see Mark Knopfler(Dire Straits) at the NAC.

Correction: amplify 819's show featuring Wheels on the Bus and Farewell to Freeway is going down at Le Bop(9 Aubry), over in Gatineau. We'd previously reported it to be taking place at Heritage College. The date, April 11th, remains the same. Seven dollars, unless you're a Heritage student, in which case with student ID it's five. Booyah.

Okay, so the new Ottawa DMC champ is Kid SL, reclaiming his throne from the now-ex-Canadian champ Drastik with an amazing six minutes of tricks, disses and sheer flow that had us moving. After that, Rjd2 simply destroyed, with four(four!) decks and a sampler. The set was cut short by 45 minutes due to extreme time overage, but what a set it was. Many, many props to the DMC crew and Kapacity for bringing it all together. Oh, and the b-boy/b-girl competition was sick.

The latest email from punkottawa contains a slew of listings for upcoming shows, too many to list here in our extreme state of fatigue. There's metal coming to Ottawa, hardcore, indie, hiphop, more metal, punk, you name it. Busy April ahead.

April 01, 2005

Greetings to one and all.

sweetdisaster's Big Cheese moved successfully yesterday evening, in the face of darkness and wind and rain. We come to you now from Casa del Strydhorst, about a block away from our previous headquarters, Case del Campbell.

And now, the news.

Tonight is Rjd2's master of ceremonies night at the Ottawa DMC Championships; presumably it's not sold out, so get your ticket at a variety of downtown locations(twenty bucks) and come see all the DJs and b-boys and b-girls, and oh yeah, Rjd2's two-hour set that will destroy us all. I'm pretty excited.

Some info from the kids at Hand of Hope Records down in Florida; they've signed fellow Floridians DKLimb, and co-founder Chris Brown has quit as Evergreen Terrace's drummer. ET's new record Sincerity Is An Easy Disguise In This Business is still scheduled to come out June 21st. [punknews]

I'm sure they're not the entire itinerary, but the first confirmed dates for the big Sounds of Underground tour happening this summer(too many bands to list, but it's metal and hardcore pandemonium, kids) are out:
June 25 Lowell, MA Paul E Tsongas Arena
June 26 Philadelphia, PA Festival Pier
June 28 Pontiac, MI Phoenix Plaza Amphitheatre
June 30 Winston-Salem, NC Dixie Classic Fairgrounds
July 1 Portsmouth, VA Harbor Center Pavilion
July 2 Sayreville, NJ Starland Ballroom Parking Lot
July 3 Montreal, QC Stade Uniprix
July 4 Mississauga, ON Arrow Hall
July 5 Cleveland, OH The Scene Pavilion
July 8 Chicago, IL Tweeter Center Parking Lot
July 9 Sauget, IL Pop's Lot
July 10 Tulsa, OK Brady Village
July 13 Orlando, FL Tinker Field
Take note of the Montreal stop; same place as the Taste of Chaos tour last month. It'll be good times.

Another reason we all love Google.

Oh, booyah: there's a new Thrice song over here called 'Motion Isn't Meaning'. I'm already listening to it, and love it, as is automatic when discussing Thrice.

This is a neat little tour shaping up: Burlington bands Boys Night Out and The Fullblast are doing a Canadian tour from Montreal to Vancouver, along with As Tall As Lions opening. Hope it comes to Ottawa; we'll let you know if it does. [absolutepunk]

Hey, Samantha at amplify819 got around to updating her site, and she's also done hooked up a good show, April 11th, happening at Heritage College over in Gatineau featuring Toronto bands Farewell To Freeway and Wheels On The Bus with some Ottawa flavour to boot. Five bucks for Heritage students, seven if you're not, and the rock will be had.

Music discovery of the day - read: a purevolume.com find that didn't either bore me to tears, incite me to rage, or where I suddenly realize that I've had a particular band on for ten minutes and heard absolutely nothing. Between Home and Serenity impressed me.

Remember Showoff? I remember the name vaguely; they were on Maverick Records(Deftones, etc), went nowhere and soon broke up. Anyway, ringleader Daniel Castady is a born-again Christian now, and his new band The Fold has signed with Tooth and Nail, and things seem to be happening well for the lads. Keep an eye peeled. Oh, and ex-Juliana Theory bassist Neil Hebrank used to be in The Fold too, if that interests anyone. [indievisionmusic]
