A while ago, TV personality Stephen Colbert placed a wager with Oshawa, Ontario mayor John Gray that Colbert's adopted Ontario Hockey League team, the Saginaw Spirit, would beat the Oshawa Generals, with the stakes being the usual having to wear your better's jersey if you lost kinda deal. Well, the Spirit pulled it out 5-4 this afternoon in OHL play, scoring the winner with 1:44 to go in the third period, and now Mayor Gray's birthday - March 20th - pursuant to Colbert's wager will be declared Stephen Colbert Day in Oshaway. This whole thing is just an excuse to mention two loves of mine - Colbert and hockey. Why, you're asking yourselves, did a celeb like Colbert suddenly throw his support behind a minor-league hockey team? Saginaw's mascot is called Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle, in tribute to Colbert. Yup. [Sportsnet]
