Once in a while, we come across something interesting that isn't music-related - and usually, that means since sweetdisaster's Big Cheese is a big sports fan, that it's sports-related, but not today. No, today's esoteric internet find is entitled Ten Reasons Why You Should Never Accept a Diamond Ring from Anyone, Under Any Circumstances, Even If They Really Want to Give You One. Read it over here. [Liberated from its cozy confines over at Rachelle's Blog]
Go read our new review for Dana Jorgensen's debut album.
Essential Listening for today, January 30th, is one of the few Tooth & Nail Records bands who don't sound kinda similar to everything else that's popular: Far-Less hail from several different Virginia zip codes, and their brand of rock and roll has always impressed mes, sounding like labelmates He Is Legend in terms of experimentation and variety of sound. Specifically, check out 'Everyone Is Out To Get Us' right over here.
Sunday, March 19th Hawksley Workman, art-rocker extraordinaire(a wee tad eccentric, he is) will be in Ottawa at First Baptist Church. Tickets available at Vertigo Records & Hi Fi down on Rideau Street. Y'all get one guess who made me post this.
Peterborough's Hawk Nelson have a new song called 'The One Thing I Have Left' up on their purevolume page; the new album's called Smile, It's The End of the World, due out April 4th. Pop-punk goodness shall abound. Dang if these kids haven't won me over in the last year. The new tune has hints of New Found Glory's hardcore roots to it. I dig.
A truly fantastic Can-Rock band, downhere, now have a title for the upcoming third album: Wide Eyed and Mystified will be out May 23rd, to be eagerly purchased by me.
Blood & Ink Recs have done it again, signing Amarillo, Texas-based metalcore act The Gentleman Homicide. The band's toured with the likes of Reflux and Ed Gein(good band there), and will put their B&I debut later this year. Before that, they'll joined labelmates Enlow and Burden of a Day for the Blood & Ink Records tour in March(dates still being finalized). I would say check out their myspace.com page(myspace.com/tgh), but I went there just now and saw the following: "This user's profile has been temporarily disabled for special maintenance. The profile will be available again shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience. 1/30/2006" Freaaaaky.
