Some albums of note that have crossed the desk lately:
- Life In Pictures: hailing from Arizona or someplace close, these guys are the first signing to Clockwork Recordings, a little project As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis, distributing it through our boy Brian at Pluto Records; LIP sound little like AILD, however, mashing frantic beats and metal energy with honest-to-goodness guitar solos(like, ones that run over a minute in length) and harsh, sometimes-profane lyrics that are nothing if not honest.
- Baby Teeth: as near as I can gather, it's called The Baby Teeth Album, Baby Teeth being the band itself; either way, Lujo Records has connected for a hit, as opposed to some of the misses they've served up(Fangs is a little too weird/esoteric for me), and this record brought me back to the '70s, when I wasn't even born yet. It's that good. Reminds me of Billy Joel in places.
- Speaking of Billy Joel, there's a song on the new Copeland record, In Motion, that sounds one heck of a lot like him, too. Singer Aaron Marsh has one of the top five singing voices I've ever heard. Can't get enough. And 'Love Is A Fast Song' is a candidate for Single of the Year in my books.
- The new Comeback Kid, as I predicted for months, is simply a destroyer of an album; I've been known to listen to it twice in an hour(it's a hot twenty-five minutes in length, as is proper). The title track(Wake the Dead) along with tracks seven and nine(the names escape me, but seven is the one with Good Riddance's Russ Rankin doing guest vocals) are the best. Yes.
