It's been sixteen years since Toronto's SkyDome was opened(May of 1989), and this hack writer remembers being eight and watching it in construction back in '88 - from atop the CN Tower, in fact. Now, however, it's to be called the Rogers Centre, after team owner/medial mogul Ted Rogers, who bought the place last year at $25M - fraction of the original building cost of $580M.
Rogers has also pledged $210M over three years for payroll purposes. Maybe the Blue Jays will finish better than thirty games under .500 in 2005!
This concludes the baseball portion of today's news.
Oh, and Ted Rogers is also directly responsible for why my cellphone bills are so high.
